Obviously it's wonderful when Polly is nominated for any award, but I don't understand how she can be nominated for Best British Album and NOT nominated for Best British Female Artist?! The BRIT awards have always been a bit of a WTF?! affair and I suppose this is better than not recognising Polly at all, which is what they usually do - but still WTF?! :???:

Aren't the Brit Awards equivalent to the MTV Awards?
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they are giving Polly the much deserved attention. I hope people decide to check her out based on it. I just doubt she will win against its core audience.

Polly is above Adele and Florence, but I think the pair of Kate Bush ...

"And the nominations for the best female British Artiste are: "

Adele *Loud Cheer*
Florence & The Machine *Loud Cheer*
Jessie J *Loud Cheer*
Kate Bush *Tumbleweed*
Laura Marling *Tumbleweed*

Still, at least Laura won it last year. I presume the judges must have been running a fever on that occasion.

Only Kate Bush is on the level of Polly, the others are only singers who are popular for a fleeting moment in a couple of years just a few of them were agreed...

Thanks, Romario and menju. Good introduction by James Corden, but he then made the very old, tired joke about PJ leaving PJ and Duncan after the clip of Polly had finished!

Running a fever! Good one, ethereal. It's like a car crash, isn't it? You don't want to look, but you do, just to see how bad it is. I have seen comments on twitter asking why Polly gets nominated. Then you look at some of the sad excuses for singers who are nominated and wonder whether the commenters are actually from another planet. Someone reckoned she gets nominated every year!

I hadn't listened to Anna Calvi's album until just before the Brits came on. I was really impressed. Also, I hadn't listened to Mark Lanegan's new album, so I listened to it during the Brits. What an experience to listen to that as Olly Murs comes on stage and does his funny little dance! Another good album, by the way. The Brits really are a joke. I have an affliction to awards anyway.

Best discussion I saw between two people on twitter, who questioned Polly's nomination: Something along the lines that the album was like a history lesson and...it was about medieval times! See? That's the British education system for you. So, it's a bit like AJP Taylor being in the room and remember: Gallipoli battles were in medieval times.

Also, some 'entertainment' can be found in reading the anti comments on youtube. Particularly on the official videos of 'The Words That Maketh Murder' and 'Let England Shake'. I may have added the odd comment in response, here and there! Some good people are answering back too.

Kate Bush is my favorite artist other than Polly, and as much as I wanted her to win, I knew she wouldn't. It was no big shock to me that she didn't.

I had higher hopes for Polly, but once again, I wasn't too terribly shocked that she didn't win. I have no doubt in my mind that she would have if Adele wasn't nominated.

She looked absolutely stunning in the little segment about the album though, so that's something.

I literally gasped when I saw this bit on TV. My goodness, she is perfection.

Anyhow.

It's not like the Brits really matter. They're just a popularity contest as far as I can tell. Still, even if they are ridiculous and have no merit whatsoever, it's nice to see her and her work get recognized...

You'll have to fight me (and surely half the other people here) for her
I kind of hate when people say things like that though..."at age 42, Pj is still really beautiful"...like that's unexpected due to her age. She's 42 AND beautiful, wow! Imagine that!
She's absolutely stunning for ANY age. She's just really beautiful, full stop.
