Comments about tonight's Troxy gig

Post by sau »

I'm not usually a fan of twitter and all that, but I found these:

Have enjoyed somewhat ageless and fascinating PJ Harvey at Troxy, though her outfit is a bit wayward nun meets gothic Morris dancer.

PJ Harvey = wonderful! Surrounded by PJ-freaks tho ;oP

Edit: Dorian Lynskey, the music writer who wrote that he thought the new album is a masterpiece:

PJ Harvey aceing it at the Troxy, dressed as a Neil Gaiman character. V theatrical.
Wiggins is so superbly unassuming, he looks like he's about to say 'Pop the gold medal in the post, I'm nipping out for some biscuits'

no more comments tonight, why it seems like the concert-goers are too exhausted to get online and share their impressions.

but I know how it is: you need a good night's rest in order to recover for next night's show.

watching Polly so many nights within a short span of time, it kind of wears you out.
I'd do anything

No support, though she didn't come on stage til 8.50.

I'll post a more detailed response shortly, but thought it was a stunning show.

Is that us?

This time in Paris I was a bit annoyed by the constant yelling of song names (and other outbursts) during pauses... I know it's part of the PJ folklore, but it seems to me it's getting worse over the years... or maybe it's just me getting old :green:

Yep - That's us!

Oh, and there was minimal yelling of song names - good not to have that distraction.

She was amazing, (as were the boys).

For the most part I found the audience to be very polite, generally just yelling "Hello Polly," and "You look amazing!".

There were however three very rowdy people behind my friends who were insistant on flailing about to every single song, to the point where they were pushing and pulling everyone around them. They moved on towards the end of the gig though, as I think everyone around them asked them to stop.

Wasn't expecting 'Big Exit' or 'Angelene'. Loved it all!

Brilliant show, the minimalist stage show works for me with the new material. Great sound at that venue too

Loved the show.

But was i just me (from front of balcony) who thought the sound was, at times, abysmal? Not sure if it was was the sound mix or the acoustics. The main fault seemed to be the central keyboard set-up which caused awful distortion at times drowning out the rest of the mix. A couple of songs, The Glorious Land being one, were almost unintelligible. I'm not blaming Polly or the rest of the group as somebody else is responsible for that side of things and should have sorted it.

Apart from that:-....................majestic; about the only word i can find to sum it up at present.

I was on a balcony in Berlin and I found the sound terrible, then I moved to another part of the balcony and it was fine, so you are not alone! I think it's just there are a lot of weird sounds and high notes, maybe it's harder to get the middle and the bass sounds onto parts of the balconies in some buildings. But it's really frustrating, I found it hard to enjoy till I moved. But I could also have bad ears!

I think you're right on reflection, listening to my audio now and there's some serious droooone going on in the mid-range with some songs :???:
Hope it's better tonight

Actually 'droooooone' sums it up. Almost an industrial resonance. Appropriate in some types of musical circumstances but not last night!
Good luck with tonight. Interested to know if they have sorted it.
I would hasten to add that it didn't spoil things completely for me. The whole thing was just electric. Was it me or did Polly seem very nervous?
