Crash Dump Advice

Post by sau »

Any very clever, technical people here who can advise me on how to deal with crash dump, that goes to blue screen? I think Windows have something to download that de-bugs the system. I'm in safe mode, so can't operate with sound. Thank you.

I assume we're talking about windows 7 or 8? Did you change any hardware recently (update a driver)? A bad driver can cause a bluescreen.

If nothing has changed recently you might try running memtest86+ from a bootable DVD or USB stick on your system overnight. If it can do that then that would indicate your hardware is ok.

I like this site a lot:

(just avoid clicking on the ads there).

Thanks! Yes, Windows 7. By the way, I've been told that it is advisable to avoid Windows 8. I haven't updated a driver, not unless it does it automatically without me knowing. Have been getting the blue screen for a long time; just haven't done anything about it.

I agree on avoiding windows 8.

As far as I know drivers are never updated automatically by windows update.

Make a bootable memtest86+ usb stick or dvd by grabbing the pre-made files or iso from here:
http://www.memtest.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Run that overnight.
