Opening ceremony takes place next Wednesday evening.

'All those involved in the ceremony are under strict orders not to give away secrets, but The Independent can reveal that double Mercury Prize-winning singer PJ Harvey has been working with disabled artists who will premiere their music with her during the ceremony.'

I hope the weather will be good for them, the forecast is not good...
the stadium is not too far away too, it's tempting...I like sport, but didn't see any of the Corporate games, because it was a total sham. Sorry, if people disagree, but that's how I see it.

I hope the Paralympics will hold some of that true Olympian Spirit, for a peaceful and better world.

So she's going to be appearing with them at the opening ceremony then?

Someone in the UK should record it when it airs on TV (they don't air it in the states) since she should be on there if she's appearing with those people.

The Paralympics seem much more interesting than the Olympics, and even more so if Polly is involved! It looks like there will be virtually no television coverage in the States. Fingers crossed we'll be able to find video online.

I have to say I'm very pleased that Polly has got involved like this.

I signed a petition for disabled people with families who were among other issues, being forced to sit separate from their families at the Paralympic events (can you believe that? :pissed: ), and have just received a reply:

"Dear Friends

Thank you so much for your support with my petition. You have highlighted a really important issue, not just regading the Paralympic Games, but the way we treat disabled people in our society as a whole.

Over the last two weeks you have stood up and told the world that you are not happy with how disabled families have been treated by LOCOG* and although they have not come out publicly and stated that they have heard you, they have.

As many of you know I and others have now been able to buy tickets that allow us to sit with our families; others who already had tickets have now been told they will be able to sit together as a family. LOCOG also contacted me last week to inform me that they were now "re-briefing" staff with regard to disabled seating."

*LOCOG is the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

There are other issues, but this is a brilliant start.

My information is that the 2012 Paralympics opening ceremony will be shown this Wednesday 29th August from 8.00pm to 11.20pm (GMT) on Channel 4

It's strange how the Guardian made no reference to PJ Harvey's forthcoming appearance in the Paralympic opening ceremony. They are usually the first mainstream newspaper to mention anything to do with PJH, but so far have said nothing. It's not clear whether she will have any input as far as the music is concerned as the article implies it will be the music of others. I remain somewhat sceptical about this.

I have to agree with you, I would have expected the Guardian and/or the NME magazine to have had some insight. Despite regular searches on the web, I cannot find one source that backs up The Independant's infomation.

not wanting to disagree for the sake of it but the themes & performers in the ceremonies for both Olympics have purposely been kept quiet for the effect on the night to be "special"? - and if Polly performs Wednesday it certainly will from my point of view :)

Hopefully, you're right mart, that makes sense to me, because come whatever, 8.00pm Wednesday I will be sitting in front of my TV (unfortunately, without the means to record anything) with great expectation :)

It really does seem weird that only the independent's been reporting about this. But, as I believe everything I read in the newspapers, there's supposed to be a live stream of the opening ceremony over here: http://paralympic.org/.
