i’d asked her band (my band, for the violent time being) beforehand if she’d maybe want to guest. they gave me that OH BOY look …and told me she never does that sort of thing unless she’s dragged out on the spot. they said supposedly nick cave used to do that….just spit “AND NOW LADIES AND GENTLEMEN PJ HARVEY” into the mic and she’d be like….um. ok. sheesh.

That's exactly what happened in that Q&A or reading or whatever it is that Nick did to promote Bunny Munro, didn't it? I'm still waiting (over 2 years now I think) for that clip of Henry fucking Lee to surface.

AFP's comments about PJ remind me a lot of Courtney Love's:

Not a musician, but author, obviously!

Bret Easton Ellis:

'Everyone keeps asking me my thoughts on Lana Del Rey but I don't have any. I'm listening to PJ Harvey's last record and thinking about that.'

Florence Welch:

'But now that I have more of an idea of the longevity of it, I'd like to have a career like P J Harvey or Björk, who are still producing albums and have these voices. I realised if I wanted to have a career like theirs, I'd have to temper my indulgences."'

You can have those. As long as Cheyenne Marie Mize can be with me.

Dream Collaboration

'PJ Harvey. She takes a lot of chances and gets a hard time for doing things differently, but she owns it, which I really respect.'

Andy Lester of The Blurries:

What was the first show that made a major impact on you?

'That would be a show I saw later that summer in 1995. It was a Live/Veruca Salt/ PJ Harvey bill. At the time, I was a fan of the only pop-rock band to ever chart a hit with the lyrics "her placenta falls to the floor." The day tickets went on sale, a friend and I got up at 4 a.m. to camp out at a grocery store on the south side of Milwaukee. Pop-rock music fans don't frequent Ticketmaster outlets on the South side. It was awkward, but we scored fifth row, center. The night of the show, we got there right when the doors opened.

First, Veruca Salt played, which I don't remember, and then PJ Harvey strutted out on to the stage in a skin-tight, purple spandex one-piece leotard with nothing on underneath and proceeded to roar through material from Rid of Me and To Bring You My Love. It was loud and noisy and, at times, barely melodic. It was both rock show and anatomy class with this purple-suited banshee shrieking and writhing about the stage 15 feet in front of me. At the time it was more frightening than sexy, but I knew then that this was rock and roll, much more so than the tripe I was there to see.'

A few more words from Sharon Van Etten:

Beyond songwriting, are there people you idolize as performers and want to emulate?
I hate to be predictable, but I'd say PJ Harvey, who I think is incredible. She can go from being stoic to being super venomous, or from a story-teller to vindictive. She has such a wide range. Like a badass mom, or something!

Carrie Brownstein: "Recently she’s been listening to Let England Shake by PJ Harvey (“It’s etched up your entire landscape, I can see it like it’s living and breathing in England and that’s very powerful)”),
