last night i saw PJ at the albert hall, just mind blowing

best gig I've ever been to...was trying to think what tops it but...?...nothing does? PJ Harvey at the Albert Hall Halloween 2011

Only pjh can sing in one of her songs "and no ones listening" over and over in a packed house at the albert hall. She just blew me away

Johhny Flynn(folk group - Johnny Flynn and the Sussex Wit):

"My favourite record this year is PJ Harvey's album, and it's really challenging about what it is to be from this country and what people are doing in our name."

Brandon Cox - Deerhunter

"“I think she’s fantastic. I think everything she does… I mean I’ve never heard a PJ Harvey album that didn’t have something about it that was really creative. But yes, she was a real inspiration to me when I was in middle school. I found her to be really awseome; she was very creepy and awkward”

Ian Rankin, not a muso, but the crime fiction writer.

Comment on twitter:

'My fave albums this year: Star Wheel Press, John Martyn, PJ Harvey, Wild Beasts, Savings and Loan, Aidan Moffat/Bill Wells, Mogwai...'

From this month's Uncut magazine:

Patti Smith - "I like her. I like her range. She is fiercly modern and has the heart of a shepherd girl"

Spider Stacy - "I am beyond flattered that she should have been listening to us while making a record of such beauty as 'Let England Shake'. There is no one else like her. She's peerless, one of the very few contemporary artists in any discipline whose clarity and profundity of vision have sharpened over the years to a point where she now seems to be working in a field defined only by herself. Her empathy, her erudition, the sense of the connection between blood and clay and the bones and roots of the world of the world echo something that could so nearly be lost, but is always somehere to be found, hovering in the air or lying in the soil below us: the dark red life of these rainy islands"

Adrian Utley: "I remember having long talks with Polly about creativity and not having a lot of confidence in what you're doing. The thing with Polly is she always seems to know exactly where she's going. Even when she says she doesn't! She's always seemed to me very strong and very focused. It's really heartening for all of us the fact that 20 years into her career she's creating her strongest work. Her dedication is absolute really. She's completely driven by her creativity. I think it's that superb, that really strong confidence when she's made up her mind about what's she's doing. Including the way she looks and what she wears on stage. You might get the impression that she can't be like that in reality...but infact she is!"

Linda Thompson: "Also "loved it". I was impressed that a woman could go through a whole album and not mention some stupid bloke, except a stupid dead bloke. I love anything without hooks and choruses, that's bliss for me, and these songs are beautifully played beautifully underplayed"

John Doe (via Rachel Reynolds' - of KCRW - comment on twitter):

'John Doe's dream collaborator? PJ Harvey. how cool would that be? make it happen people!'

----------------

'I asked how he finds his collaborators – if they just happen upon each other or if it’s a process. He says he actively seeks out specific singers, particularly ones he’s worked with before, and he dropped the name of who is on his wishlist for the future: PJ Harvey.'

How could you not love her and the band after this.

Alan Sparhawks (Low) fave records of 2011
PJ Harvey Let England Shake
I still remember where I was when I heard her first record, Dry. I think she's one of the great artists of our time. Have you heard the 4-track record she did in the 90's? Everything she puts out is engaging and timeless, even as she is glaringly in-the-moment with this record. There should be more records like this being made, but our generation has really fallen down on the job. We're too cautious maybe.

Stella Mozgawa: Warpaint -

"Let England Shake by P J Harvey is simply a masterpiece. She oscillates between intimate and extroverted levels of protest, and I don't think I've ever heard an album that's quite so sure of itself. It's powerful without being preachy and I love the way it sucks you in and continues to unravel with every listen. My favourite album of the last five years, let alone 2011."
