mmmh interesting.
thank you!
It was really just a snippet that made me think ‘Pocket Knife’ and also because that song really feels like it’s told by a character with a strong narrative and has a ...

Re: LONDON TIDE – theatre play with original songs by PJH
I was lucky enough to see London Tide last night. Songlist and opinion hidden as spoilers below
There are indeed 13 new PJ Harvey songs and it feels closer to a full musical than just a play with a couple of songs and score (like All About Eve). These are full songs not just instrumentals and ...

Re: PJ Pic of the Day #10
Wow! What a stunning photo - great find! It must be one of the only photos from 1995 where she’s not wearing TBYML make-up to some degree - just a gorgeous natural photo. It’s kind of fascinating to see her photographed this way in the midst of the highly controlled artifice of that era.

Re: Gunnersbury Park 18 Aug 2024 7:00pm
The event listing has been removed from O2 Priority now - someone messed up I think! But it seems possible it’s something she’ll do - I saw Boygenius at Gunnersbury Park as part of their summer music season and it’s a lovely place for an outdoor show - big enough but not absolutely massive, very ...

Re: Hal Hartley talking about casting Polly in The Book of L
Thank you so much for sharing this. I was a huge Hal Hartley fan back in the day (I wish more people would remember him when talking about 90s cinema!) and it was a dream come true when he worked with Polly. This is such a lovely, thoughtful insight into their process of working together. It’s been ...

Re: Polly Admiration (Muso fans)
I saw St Vincent playing in Bexhill a few nights ago and a tour hiccup meant that her band didn’t have any of their gear so they had to do an impromptu acoustic set. To make the show extra special for anybody feeling deprived of electro-pyrotechnics Annie threw in a few exclusives, including ...

I saw this too and it’s nice that they’ve selected STFCSTFC as one of only 18 albums to reappraise out of 25 years worth of reviews. They should have got it right the first time though!

I also recalled her liking Bruce Nauman so i googled it - I couldn’t find the full interview online but this is the quote as published in ‘Sirens Rising’ book
She remained as enthusiastic about the contemporary art scene as ever, expressing a particular admiration for the artist Bruce Nauman. “I ...

Re: Polly's visual art influences / favourites
In this interview from 1993 Polly talks about her appreciation for Andres Serrano - I can definitely see the influence/parallels with his provocative body horror, especially in Rid Of Me era.

BBC Glastonbury coverage - 1995 ‘Naked Cousin’ broadcast
The BBC have put together a series of new docs covering the history of Glastonbury festival, featuring lots of archive footage - currently available on iPlayer for the next 22 days. Jo Wiley hosted a show about Glastonbury in the 90s, which featured Polly’s performance of ‘Naked Cousin’ - nice ...
