What can I say about yesterday that hasn't been said before? She inhabits the songs and brings them to life with a unique combination of minimal movements and huge variety of sounds. She was magnetic, mysterious, fragile but sharp. I was pretty close to the stage and at times it looked like she struggled to keep away from any eye-contact with the crowd, as if it could distract her, but she saved her gracious smile for the last cheers. The band was great and super tight, her singing was impeccable, no flaws of any kind except for just one insignificant "a-ehm" at the start of River Anacostia, really. I would have liked to hear Medicinals and The Last Living Rose but I'm so happy she closed with a super spooky WFTM and ITD?, two songs I really looked forward to. I like the way these last two fit with the social commentary theme of the album, hinting respectively to prostitution and immigration. And I should add To Talk To You was a real revelation, the arrangement felt angular, remote, almost shattered.
Oh, and before the gig I stood for a good half minute next to John Parish, he was in the bar chatting with Alessandro Stefana and another guy, so I didn't want to bother him. All I caught from the conversation was "She didn't like it at all..."
