In Rafa of Valladolid was one of the promoters of concerts of those who no longer are, someone able to mount a concert hall made in the city of Inhabitants in order to bring them their favorite groups, or to create a seal to publish albums of your friends. One day he discovered a group of Bristol as unknown as unpronounceable: Automatic Dlamini.
He had reached the disk The of is for Drum (Idea, 1987), and was not able to avoid the fit to bring them on tour in the State. But the promotion failed, the discs did not arrive on time, the posters almost nor will they saw and the media shone by their absence at the time to promote the concerts of the band. The tour was an absolute failure, a hole in the pockets of the poor Rafa, which is still made in the last concert of the tour at the sala KGB first of July 1989. Already anticipating failure, we asked truquéssim to as many friends as we could at least leave with the feeling that his proposal could interest someone and that fatigue and travel hours had served for something. In total, counting all the waiters and the staff at the Hall, he managed to collect up to thirty people. Automatic Dlamini were not bad at all, with a vocalist who played drums as percussion and you extracted strange noises from guitars, accompanied by a shy guitarist who had trouble lifting the look, and a competent force.

All we do is some pictures they scrutinise we were fans of the group, but the shy guitarist was too exhausted even to let them do it. With the mischievous face, what I wanted was to return to the hotel, I had no desire to go for a burn on the night. I was tired, as he must see that that was not the right path to follow. They could have gone to a pension, and even we offer to have them squatters a night in our home, but Rafa said that the musicians deserved respect and sleep in good condition. And even though this agreujava their ruin, certainly did grow his prestige among the four that the envoltàvem.

Well, it turns out that the young guitarist was actually Polly Jean Harvey – Yes, PJ Harvey, and the leader of the Group was John Parish. On the side there was also Rob Ellis and Ian Olliver, which later would form part of various projects of PJ Harvey. In April 1995 he returned to come to Barcelona to present the songs from famous To Bring You My Love (Island, 1995) in the sala Razzmatazz II – with Tricky of opening act –, but the roles had changed: in this case it was she who was headed by the band, and Parish stood behind him. Seems to lie that girl with the face of not having never broken plate was the same as that in the summer of 1998, he fell in love with and seduce all the Benicàssim Festival when she came out wearing a look sadomasochist.

The rest of the story is already written and well documented. The growth and divinització of PJ Harvey has reached the peak point: all lists have encimbellat his eighth disc, Let England Shake (Vagrant, 2011), as one of the best of the past year and everybody is the raffle to be able to have as a poster of any festival.

Thanks! It's a shame you can't see the face of Rob Ellis. On the far right it's Jeremy Hogg, Polly's second guitarist in 1996 and 1998.
