Re: Song List
Dumb question: what singles have been released for Hope 6? If there have been singles, what were the B-sides accompanying them?
It appears the new 7" single's A-side is A Dog Called Money and its B-side is I'll Be Waiting, but since the A-side was not included on Hope 6 originally, does that make it a proper single?
What about Guilty? Did it have a B-side, or was it a digital only release?
I suppose these are all 'B-sides'? They certainly aren't "unreleased".
I'm seeing mention of Dance on The Mountain as being part of these new releases also?
They're calling A Dog Called Money and I'll Be Waiting a "Double A Side". So I guess my question is where should these (as well as Guilty and Dance On The Mountain) be put in song list thread? They were not on Hope 6, they're not B-sides (at least not in the usual sense), they're not Demos, they're not unreleased(?). I'm thinking the best place is B-Sides?

Re: Song List
Well, "B-side" is pretty much an out-of-date term nowadays when people hardly ever release physical singles.
AFAIK as for Hope VI only two 'proper' physical singles were released - "The Wheel" and "The Community of Hope". Both records had an etching instead of a B-side.
"Guilty" was digital-only.
And yes, "A Dog Called Money / I'll Be Waiting" is an AA single, just like "This Is Love / You Said Something".
Perhaps the category should be renamed from 'B-sides' to something like 'non-album tracks'? Or maybe 'outtakes' would be better?

Re: Song List
Well, "Guilty", "A Dog Called Money" and "I'll Be Waiting" are outtakes from the studio recordings, and "Dance on the Mountain" is a self-recorded demo (the only full demo which we know lyrics for).

Re: Song List
By the way, has "Dance on the Mountain" been officially released anywhere? Or is all we have that 128kbps rip from the BBC website?

Non-album tracks?
Re: Song List
It seemed simplest to make a new category called "Non-album Tracks" and put these in it:AineteEkaterini wrote:Non-album tracks?
A Dog Called Money (Hope 6 outtake)
Dance On The Mountain
Guilty (Hope 6 outtake)
Homo Sappy Blues
I'll Be Waiting (Hope 6 outtake)
Let me know if the lyrics seen in that YT clip for Dance On The Mountain:
Kalashnikovs were brought across
the mountain on the back of mules
They stored their weapons
in a school
There's something wrong
Something terrifying
Something terrifying
And now the slopes of dry grass
hold crouching boys
watch their fathers dance
Holding hands they follow the drums
Something terrifying is going on
The oldest dancer
takes off his hat
to place a glass of water
on his head
bares his teeth
wakes the dead
this is their land
they dance upon
Something terrifying is going on
Something terrifying
Something terrifying
The dancer falls
to kneel before
the village elder
stains on his shirt
Rising up
growing strong
the boy children
start to dance
It's terrifying
In the distance people call
like a river running home
In the distance people call
like a river calling out
In the distance people call
in the oldest language known
It's terrifying
are correct and I'll include them in the lyrics thread.

No, this edit is more correct (you could listen to the song and look at them at the same time to verify it):

"A Dog Called Money"
The kids are rolling dice for change,
sitting on the backyard steps, calling Money's name.
Old guy walking to the store,
chewing on a cocktail stick, comes to tell us what is what.
He says, "Everything is staged - that's how it is.
People just paid and bought, and I'm tired of it.
What you're gonna do to change it?
Everything is staged - that's what's going on."
The kids rolling dice again, sun is beaming down.
I ask the old guy's name.
He smiles, the pitbull runs our way,
the kids call out for him, "Money! Money!"
He says, "Everything is staged - that's how it is.
People just paid and bought, and I'm tired of it.
What you're gonna do to change it?
It's all about money - that's what's going on."

Re: Song List
Added The Camp to the song list's (top post) collaboration section.
Are there official lyrics for it yet, or has someone transcribed them?

Re: Song List
I understand the most of the lyrics, but I wouldn't volunteer to write them down.

"The Camp"
[Verse 1: PJ Harvey]
I saw children through a fence
standing by blue canvas tents
I called to them, they move like ghosts
Gliding, silent and remote
A girl who smiled was a straight lie
looked like a creature out of time
A grey boy burned by cigarettes
pushed his scarred hands through the fence
And when I turned, and tried to run
I saw ten thousand children
Were laid in lines wrapped in white sheets
Along a godforsaken street
[Verse 2: Ramy Essam in Egyptian] ("an excerpt from Ramy Essam's verse, translated from Egyptian to English" from press-release)
I wish I had wings to fly away, far away.
Meet smiley faces who never ask where I came from;
not to ask about colour, race, or religion.
What difference does it make if we're all humans?
No wars, no limits, no borders. Earth is everyone's right.
[Chorus]
I prayed an angel from the clouds
Would free the children, free them, oh oh
I prayed and waited for an age
I waited but no angel came (x4)
[Outro]
I prayed an angel would come, but no angel came
I prayed an angel would come, but no angel came
I prayed an angel would come, but no angel came
I prayed an angel would come, but no angel came
