BRIDPORT: Big support for Record Store Day

Music lovers thronged to South Street to support their local record shop as part of national Record Store Day.

Customers queued from the early hours to be the first to support Bridport Music as they laid on a day of events to celebrate the day.

And with local grandees PJ Harvey and Ben Waters popping in to lend their support, the atmosphere in the packed shop was charged with something a bit special.

Local bands peppered the day with live performances – including a sparkling set from youth band WHAT (Will, Hamish, Alfie, Tom).

The fourpiece squeezed themselves into a corner of the store to delight visitors to the store with a virtuoso display of spontaneous gigging.

Store co-owner Steph Garner said she was happy with all the attention.

She said: “It’s been busy – hectic! We had a queue outside the shop when we came to open and it hasn’t let up.

“Our last band is on at 4pm so after that it should calm down a bit.

“It’s been great for sales and a great chance to celebrate independent record shops and music in general.”

Wiggins is so superbly unassuming, he looks like he's about to say 'Pop the gold medal in the post, I'm nipping out for some biscuits'
