I know. Gotta respect her for being so open with her process, warts and all.

UHH + Demos both sound great - super dynamic pressings. "Who The Fuck?" surprised me - it really jumps out of your speakers. Both records are a bit warped but it's hard to get one that isn't lately. Artwork all around looks beautiful as well.

Well, now we know why she used to perform it with a metronome live.

Ahahahah right!
By the way, I like this version. I think it flows more smoothly without the drums, and the required hand/voice coordination stands out more. I guess for a novice piano player like she was, this must have been tricky to sing while playing

That seems to be written on the back of a page from the script for the 2007 film inspired by Bob Dylan, 'I'm Not There', which Ben Whishaw was in.

(Sorry, bit obsessive!)

One more lyric sheet, on some hotel's stationery:

Listening to the demos right now. It took me by surprise when she straight-up addressed 'Joshie' (Josh Klinghoffer?) on "Broken Harp"...

Some random thoughts about the White Chalk demos:

    1. Despite it being her seventh album, this collection sounds most 'amateurish' since the Dry demos - and I don't necessarily mean it in a bad way! I just understand more her comments about being a beginner on an instrument and discovering a totally new way of writing songs, which for better or worse includes losing tempo or going off key sometimes.

    2. It's interesting that "Grow Grow Grow" and "The Piano", which were performed on autoharp and acoustic guitar during her solo tour, had actually been written and demoed on piano as well. I always assumed the demos would be similar to the live versions but no - she just arranged them differently for the live show.

    3. Really love the simple instrumental piano bridge in the title track but I'm glad they went for the harmonica in the studio version.

    4. Yes, again, thinking about 'Joshie' opening "Broken Harp".

    5. The over-the-top vocals in "The Piano" are probably the biggest surprise here (and a callback to her rawer earlier work) but I think the understated delivery in the studio version benefits the song.

    6. Overall there have been plenty of seemingly small decisions made in the studio (losing the 'oooh' outro in "White Chalk", John Parish's backing vocals on "Dear Darkness", the oomph of the "Silence" coda, etc.) that really turned a collection of beautiful, imperfect demos into a fantastic album.

Thank you for the HQ scans, lepetitlord, much appreciated! I hope someone will be able to provide a scan of "We Float" for you.

Interesting, if I read it correctly, one discarded line of "White Chalk" referred to the Cerne Abbas Giant? A giant man cut in your turf 1500 years ago.

So... the Let England Shake demos seemingly won't arrive until November? Hope the listing's wrong but it wouldn't surprise me given the massive delays in vinyl manufacturing lately.

Here's a tiny cover to keep us waiting:
