If she doesn't work with Colin Stetson soon I'm going to riot. He's probably my favourite musician of the past decade.
Also - Big Thief! Tirzah! Thom! Impeccable playlist.
Yes! I'm hoping that one of them pulls the other one in for one of their soundtrack projects. They've both done so many soundtracks over the last two years that they can at least collaborate on one track. Maybe? Please?
I completely agree that he's probably my favorite new artist from the last decade. Judges was such a blast of fresh air when I first heard it. I had just turned 30 and was feeling like an old man because I wasn't finding anything new that I liked.
Absolutely, I was first exposed to his work in 2013 when he released
To See More Light and I was blown away, I had never heard anything like that before. (I was also lucky enough to see him live with a full ensemble when he performed his reworking of Górecki's 3rd Symphony.) I agree that film/TV/theatre scoring seems like an obvious meeting point for Polly and Colin, but as much as I enjoy ambient and instrumental pieces, I'd also love to hear her sing a proper song backed by his saxophone.
Also just wanted to say that I'm very glad that PJ's still posting these little playlists every few months and the increasingly-frequent inclusion of younger artists (Weyes Blood, Amen Dunes, Angel Olsen, Big Thief, Connan Mockasin, Aldous Harding etc.) warms my heart. I remember back in 2011 when she was doing press for
LES she used to say that she didn't find anything interesting in most contemporary music and only kept mentioning The Fall or Neil Young or The Doors when asked about her listening habits. I'm not sure who's responsible for showing her more current stuff, but I just love the idea of Polly putting on a record by Tirzah or Eartheater and vibing!
