I’m trying to figure out That was my veil. There are online chords, but they don’t seem to be right. There are 2 live videos with on YT where you can see some of the chords John plays, and I thought they could be in drop D... I’m just very confused and need some help

It’s in an open tuning, not drop D. I don’t know which tuning exactly but it’s on my list of songs to figure out. God knows it’s long overdue.
Might be something like open A minor. I want to find as many videos of John playing it live as I can. They’re hard to come by. The ones I’ve watched focused on Polly singing and not his playing, sadly.

^ For the heck of it you could try asking John himself via an email to
matt@thrilljockey.com.

So I have asked John and he was so kind to reply and even draw the chords! I cannot wipe the stupid smile off my face now.
The tuning turned out to be open E.
Thank you for suggesting asking him, I wouldn't have guessed it was an option.

Excellent!
I recall contacting Eric Drew Feldman years ago and he was very prompt in replying back.

That’s stunning. Thank you and congratulations! I’m going to enjoy learning it.
I’m tempted to ask him about “Driving”, but 1) I think that would be pushing it; 2) the version he played on the 1995 tour doesn’t sound quite the same as on 4-Track Demos; and 3) I think I’ve got it figured out nearly 100% (the obsessive in me says, “BUT YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE”, to which I say, “see point # 2, Bob”).

Polly is still represented by ATC:

Sending an email to them with a question for her about a song would likely be futile.
