I know she dismissed the comparisons to Patti in the past, but there are times when I listen to Patti and I just can't help but hear Polly in there (or vice versa rather).

I don't think Polly has had an issue with comparisons. She's made it clear that Patti wasn't an influence, being unfamiliar with her work till after the comparisons started.

In Polly's world, fans are to be avoided at all costs.

According to the (unauthorized) biography, she was traumatized by several stalker-like fan encounters very early in her career.

I haven't read the unauthorized biography, but I don't doubt it. A lot of fans tend to get carried away, and that's coming from someone who's obsessed with her music and thinks she's one of the most attractive women in the world, lol.

I don't think this was "official" in the sense that it (a personal appearance) would ever be announced ahead of time by Polly's management. From what I remember, diligent googling sometimes finds these things out when details inadvertently leak out. During active touring it's a lot easier to find out what she's up to (eg. radio station appearances etc). I distinctly remember listening to her March 2009 KRCW in-studio (web) broadcast in real time as it happened, because we knew ahead of time about it (and luckily folks had lined up the tools to snag the broadcast so it is still around to view):

it was an event for ann demeulemeester, so i dont think it would be right for pj to invite her own fans down to gatecrash the party! who might not otherwise be that interested.

It occurred to me after writing the above that the most productive times of finding out about these one-off appearances, interviews etc. is ONLY at the very start of a tour when they're promoting it. You can see the pattern if you look in the gigography. Earlier in her career she seemed to do a lot more interviews and studio performances, but nowadays very few.

Once rumors of a new album and tour pop up, googling for PJ related stuff will become productive again.
