Nice interview. Thanks for posting.
"take me into becoming a painter" got my attention. I hope that doesn't happen since Polly could easily take a page from Don Van Vliet's career and call it quits in the music business.
Don threw in the towel and became a painter after about 17 years in the music biz. Polly's been at it for 20 years now. Don's art was actually quite successful. Unfortunately for us, this may be a real possibility since her past efforts at writing music for film and theatre haven't been all that successful.

^ That was my exact thought when I read that part. I think she has said something along the same line in the past too, though I can't remember where. Though I'd love to see her paintings and read her writing, I'd be very disappointed if she did follow Beefheart and give up her music. My stomach knots at the thought.

Personnaly, it wouldn't shock me. She's had a great career in music, so if she ever feels the need to change the format of her art, I think that's just the way it should be.
I prefer this to her making music without any inspiration.

all of that neil young love reminds me of the similarities between down by the water and his down by the river (off everybody knows this is nowhere, which she sites). curious similarity or point of inspiration for pj?
"Down by the river
I shot my baby
Down by the river,
Dead, oh, shot her dead."
