"Yours faithfully" is the part that interests me. I think that these words should be reserved only for loved ones. It never would occur to me to use it in correspondence with a mere acquaintance or in this type of business interaction. But she was very young then.

I was checking something in the Blandford book and read a reference to an article in the Sunday Times previewing a book to which PJH had contributed a couple of photographs. I couldn't remember ever seeing them anywhere, so I bought the book (very cheaply from Abebooks). It was worth £3.50!

On the Other Side of the Lens was published in 2003 by Dazed Books and was a collaboration between Canon, the tech company, and the Red Cross, to raise money for the latter. The project asked a variety of celebrities (supplied with Canon cameras) to contribute pictures showing what inspired them. Polly donated a picture of Ray and Eva with their record collection, or rather some of their favourite items from it, and a self-portrait.

There's a lot that's really interesting about these pictures. In the background behind Polly you can make out a couple of pictures of her (including one of the 'chicken' photos) and what looks a bit like John Parish - though I wonder who the chap to the upper left of her head is. Saul, perhaps? Has there ever been any publicly-accessible image of him? Ray and Eva have some intriguing pictures too, and not just of their daughter. Polly has assembled the picture of them as a collage, for reasons best known to herself - the image covers two pages in the book, so I'm afraid you get the binding thread in the middle, but most of the irregularities come from the nature of the image itself.

Text by Polly: "Nothing has shaped me more, or driven me to do what I do more than my parents and their love for Rock and Roll. My life has been breathing music since the day I was born. I probably know every word and riff from this collection of records, (I told them to choose their 20 favourites) because they have been on constant rotation my whole life. One Big Thank-you to Eva and the Rave."

It's Jeff Buckley. I think it's this picture:

Thanks so much for sharing this! It is interesting indeed!

You don't have to look far for Saul, her father, brother and nephews all feature in the video for On Battleship Hill. Her brother is the spitting image of her father, which is probably the point of using them in her video.

I find it hard to make out the pictures in the background (could be because of my lousy tablet). Except for Jeff Buckley and John Parish I don't see anything at all, where's the chicken?

Thank you, Blackngreen, I've never watched that, so should.

It's right over on the left hand side, very blurry - one of the set taken in 1992 at Corscombe with PJ wearing the black feather boa as well as carrying a chicken.

I was in Corscombe last week for completely non-Polly-related reasons. It really is biscuit-box pretty, almost too picturesque. It might have been a bit rougher-edged in the 1970s.
