O, I don't know who was the first one to sing this song, but now that I listened to your version I think these guys did it earlier than Simply Red.

Checked out Ohio players - fantastic! Love funk.

#1 song the day Polly was born - Sugar, Sugar by the The Archies

Mine - Can't Buy Me Love, The Beatles

Guess that ages me a bit eh

Yeah right. Ever heard of Mitch Miller?

I'll see your Mitch Miller and raise you a Perry Como.

LOL. yeah that was some era eh? I was hoping for Elvis at least. I don't even want to mention the song, you all know it. But my "birthday version" is to puke for.

When I was young, Mitch Miller had a TV (probably radio too) show, "Sing Along With Mitch." We loathed it. My wife and I, growing up on different ends of the state, both remember this show as "Sting Along With Itch."

Well....

The song was written in 1836, and I'm not THAT old. I just read that this version knocked Bill Haley's Rock Around the Clock out of the #1 spot. DAMN! People had such strange tastes back then.

The song is The Yellow Rose of Texas. Yee haw. No, that song is fine but..

The Mitch Miller treatment. A hearty male chorus. You've heard of Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound?" Mitch Miller patented the "Wall of Chest Hair" sound. :puke:
