It's ok I just tripped over some stuff my cats had moved around at night & hit my face on the floor pretty bad. It's getting better quickly, I have pain meds the dr gave me so, it's doing very well thanks. :)

Ohhh bad bad cats ! I usually trip over my cats themselves and more than once it was close to a catastrophe, knowing how one of them likes to sleep on a stair...
Anyway, get well soon!

The monitor engineer has a transmitter that sends a signal to a tiny receiver in a bag or a purse that she carries. Interestingly, this signal can be picked up by a scanner receiver in the audience. It's not hard to find the frequency of the signal with the scanner. A couple of the bootlegs last year utilized it. One taper even mixed the monitor signal with his own mic mix. The problem is the signal is pretty weak so if you're not very close to the stage you'll get very noticeable FM quieting noise (as was evident last year).

Also the monitor foldback to each member on stage would be mixed to what they need to hear & not necessarily what would sound good overall - not the best way to grab stuff i'd say?

From what I remember of the 2009-04-20 SBE bootleg, Polly's voice was very clear. So that's the benefit. The taper in that case also mixed (and had to carefully time align) a second source from his own mics of the sound from his location. He did a pretty good job except for I don't think he was close enough to the stage to get the IEM signal without some FM fades. The Wiltern gig was another matter. The IEM mix was very thin by itself and the taper wasn't nearly close enough.

I meant that I had to get one of those bootlges, not receivers.. not sure that was clear given your answer...

Anyway that's interesting information. I remember reading an article on a specialized site for this kind of technical music gear where Polly said that the IEM had saved her hearing.

Oops.

The 2009-04-20 bootleg is well worth getting. It's still up on dime, torrent #248679. Here's the info file:

PJ Harvey and John Parish
Shepherds Bush Empire, London
20 April 2009

Source 1: AT898 > SP-SPSB-10 > Edirol R-09HR (48kHz 24 bit)
Source 2: Icom IC-R5 > Edirol R-09 (48kHz 24 bit)

Time aligned in Adobe Audition 3. Mastered in Adobe Audition 3, Izotope Ozone 4 and Har-Bal 2.

Dropped the Icom during The Soldier and had to retune so the source switches to Source 1 only and because I was fiddling there was a lot of rustling. Minor interference here and there occasionally. Saw a couple of people filming this. Would be nice to see that up here.

How is she doing this magic with her shirt? If I wore something like that it'd be boobs everywhere, even if I was standing still.

I concur.

PJ probably has magic boobs.

I remember that there was a lot of speculation whether she was going to quit doing concerts....
Did she really say that? Did she mean with that band?
