David Bowie RIP 1947-2016

David Bowie died following an 18-month battle with cancer, just days after the release of his latest record "Blackstar".

I'm at a loss for words really. What a terrible loss. What an amazing artist he was.

i was fortunate (aka old enough) to have seen him, just the once, 1978 Heroes World Tour - not my favorite era but when he walked on stage i'd never felt anything like it before...or since tbf, just as though the Messiah had walked on - goose pimples & hair on back of neck stood up - unbelievable

An amazing human being. What a life. My brother has been a fan for over 40 years. Must be a strange, reflective day for him.

I saw Bowie live in 1987 - Glass Spider tour - at Wembley Stadium. Imagine standing at one end of the stadium with the stage at the other end...a long way away! Then at London Docklands Arena in, I think, 1993, when he made his come back after announcing his retirement.

The Post Office Tower even had a Rest in Peace message on it today.

David contacted Polly, asking her to duet with him and his band on “The Man Who Sold the World” for some TV or award show. Polly being Polly, she said she’d only do it if she could use her own band, and we even rehearsed a dirge-like version of the tune. (Without David, of course.) In the end David nixed the idea, opting to perform his song with the musicians of his choice."

Bowie himself (?): "We tried once with Polly but it didn't work out. We were going to do a version of "The Man Who Sold The World" but we both had different ideas on what the arrangement should be. It ended friendly enough but I doubt that we will get back together again."

Perhaps he was a bit too bossy? His song, then his band, I mean, somehow he just wanted her to decorate his set lol. Though I believe she lost an opportunity to have a big friend since he really admired her work, this scenario sounds unfriendly for her.
