could somebody bring the as-yet-not-totally-interpreted-and-agreed-upon lyrics of The Last Living Rose and Let England Shake over from the old Garden and post them here? (I tried to do so but found, of course, that only the Admins have that ability.) or if somebody copied those lyrics already, could you post them in this forum (to let the interpretation discussion continue)? |

Or would you like us to archive the thread like the ones on the Multimedia forum? You should be able to read the forum, if you're not there's something wrong with the permissions and we need to fix it. Here they are as posted by DrDark. Let England Shake Originally posted at http://thegarden.forum5.com/viewtopic.php?t=1703. Started by natural high over in atforumz with major modifications for what I hear. This one is really tough, probably WAY off here. The West's asleep let England shake Weighted down in silent death I fear our blood will rise again Will rise again England's dancing days are done Another day for you to come Come and tell me a difference Is one one one (won?) Smile smile Bobby with your lovely mouth Pack away the troubles lets head out To the fountain the fountain of death Splash about swim back back back Until the day is ending And the birds are silenced And the insects are courting And by the shores heavy stones are falling Smile smile Bobby with your lovely mouth Pack away the troubles lets head out To the fountain the fountain of death Splash about swim back forth back back And laugh out loud Take me back to Constantinople No you can't go back to Constantinople.. Can't help but wonder if Polly is making a political statement here. Here's the links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiB30L2-emM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9wyJpfs4dQ The Last Living Rose Originally posted http://thegarden.forum5.com/viewtopic.php?t=1701 from hex object and natural high over in atforumz, with a couple of adjustments for what I hear. For all that's European (?) Take me back to beautiful England And the grey, damp filthiness of ages And battered books and Fog rolling down behind the mountains On the graveyards and dead sea captains Let me walk through the stinkin' alleys To the music of drunken beings Past the Thames river glistenin' Like gold hastily sold for nothing Nothing! Let me watch night fall on the river The moon rise up and turn to silver The sky move the ocean shimmer The hand shake the last living rose Quiver I hear "beings" not "beatings", "hand" not "heads". The 1st line is a mystery.. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h9aWoR55Po |

I was trying to use the "quote" function, thus to capture/copy the text in order to paste it, but got the message "Sorry, but only administrators can reply to posts in this forum". |

Unfortunately the quote function comes with permissions to reply, and because we've locked the forums replies are not allowed. You can still do a simple copy-and-paste and credit the author, or select it and hit the [Quote] button above. To quote as "x person wrote", the format is quote="author's name here" (e.g. [quote="Pollyphoniac"]). |

"Let England Shake" reminds me of Howe Gelb's "B 4 U (Do Do Do)" - same kind of song mix-up technique and beat. |

She *definitely* sings "to the music of drunken beatings" that time. |

We can correct the beginning of Let England Shake (above) from this: "The West's asleep let England shake Weighted down in silent death" to this: "The West's asleep. Let England shake Weighted down with silent dead" |
