Thankyou cat.

Some promo photos from the 'A Perfect Day Elise' video shoot there.

Pretty sure the shoot was at the Burlington Hotel in Worthing, Sussex - I wrote about it on the official site:

Thank you so much Cat! I love PJ with her natural curls, so hot. :yum:

The ones with Nick Cave and Tori/Björk aren't really from the ITD era. The Henry Lee video was out in 95-96 i think, and the Satisfaction performance was in 94.

She's standing on the porch with some of the Dessert Session boys. Cool shot, looks like Rod Dog on the sign but I'm guessing it's the Red Dog (?)

you found it before I did (which is evident by the date of your posting).

but I already wrote about it in the old Garden, here is the link:

http://thegarden.forum5.com/viewtopic.p ... =thegarden

and I was going to report from the place, since I went there myself on 15th April (a little jaunt I made from Brighton where I was to see the PJ/JP show that evening). here's the lowdown now:

I have to conclude that the video 'A Perfect Day Elise' was only partly shot in the Burlington Hotel, because the corridor scenes (where Polly is either standing in front of some doors, one of them with the number 509, or walking about in the corridors) do not correspond in the least to the interior of the Burlington. I walked upstairs intent on finding room 509, expecting to feel a sense of stark recognition (by walking those very corridors which can be seen in the video) but found a totally different arrangement of interior architecture.

however it is obvious by looking at the video and comparing it to the layout of the Burlington Hotel and its surroundings, that the room wherein Polly is seen pensively sitting on the bed (in one sequence) and standing on the floor ecstatically looking out the window (in another sequence) must be the one at the southwestern corner of the second floor (one storey above ground).

and the staircase on the ground floor is at the Burlington, indeed it looks exactly as in the video (except for the knob at the lower end of the railing, which is different - probably replaced since the video was recorded), and the doorway at the bottom of the stairs leading into Gio's Bar, all of that is authentic; but the reception desk doesn't look at all like the one in the video, so it is probably from another hotel (unless the place was refurbished and rebuilt sometime in the intervening period, after all it's been more than ten years since that video was shot; I asked the receptionist if the Burlington had been refurbished at any time since the late '90s and her response was that it has indeed been rebuilt: so that could explain why the reception desk is totally different but not the fact that the corridors and doors upstairs do not resemble those in the video at all. - probably they shot those corridor scenes at some other hotel where there actually is a room 509.)

but I'm telling you, it was a fantastic feeling to go there, to approach the hotel and recognize it, then to go through the entrance and walk up that staircase. it was Frank Zappa who wrote the song "Be In My Video" and that song title did occur to me at the moment, but it didn't really feel like being in Polly's video; even so, it was worth the while to make the little trip to Worthing. and little did I suspect that three months later I would be back in Worthing, on another PJ-motivated mission - but that's another story which I may tell in another forum.
