^ Thanks for posting that, what a lovely story. I'm not surprised Polly was drawn to early Savages shows, they were such an awesome, intense band. I haven't got round to buying Jehnny's new album yet but I'm very curious about it, so I'm sure it will make its way to my turntable soon.

Cool. I have a sister who never understood my musical affection for PJ. But she likes Pink.

So this will definitely come in handy! :green:

Tool singer, Maynard James Keenan:

“What feels like heavy music to you, what has weight?”

“For me, the weight comes from mood, so I find a more creative space and a more productive space in a more moody piece.
So as far as weight, I think most people kind of think of weight in terms of Metallica, you know, some of the heavier bands – Slayer – but I find weight in things like PJ Harvey and Gillian Welch, and a band called Low.
That’s where I find weight – in those almost… they’re uplifting but emotionally sad, but because they’re sad, they’re uplifting to me.”

As if Polly doesn’t have plenty of music that’s actually heavy, Maynard. Whatever!

Elvis Costello! ... -his-life/

I remember seeing PJ on The Tonight Show. She stood there with just a guitar and did “Rid of Me.” It was like seeing Howlin’ Wolf on Shindig! So great. And then I got the record [Rid of Me], and it was nowhere near as good, but it didn’t matter. For me, the record sounds like shit. That guy [Steve Albini] doesn’t know anything about production. He might be the second-worst producer of a great record after Jimmy Iovine, who totally fucked up [Bruce Springsteen’s] Darkness on the Edge of Town. It sounds like Bruce is in a fucking shoe box full of tissue paper. And that’s why 4-Track Demos is 20 times the version of the songs on the album, in terms of intensity and intent. What matters is her, what PJ is doing. There’s nobody like her.
