Interesting. I actually bought Reign's record "The House on the Causeway":

In the vein of the last two posts, here's a part about Polly from Tim Farthing's (who's played guitar during the "Stories" tour) fresh interview:

You personally have had quite a varied musical past - a lot of people may not realise you played with PJ Harvey for example. What would you look back on as your proudest achievement thus far?

TF: I do try not to look back. Nostalgia is sort of dangerous, I think. Certainly playing with Polly gave me an insight into what playing at that level is like. With all the will in the world, I don't imagine I'll be playing Madison Square Garden again anytime soon… but I'm grateful to have had the chance.

How did you come into contact with her and how does one go from playing massive shows with PJ Harvey to being involved in two of the premier DIY noise bands in the UK?

TF: Well, she lives near me. I've known her since we were teenagers. We started up bands at the same time and found ourselves in the same skittle alleys in the 80s. Actually, my guitar teacher was John Parish, who has played with her on and off since the beginning - so we were aware of each other through him possibly, it's hard to remember. How I ended up here is hard to work out. Seeing Polly's life at close hand certainly dispelled any interest I had in being a 'pop star'. It just looked like a massive pain in the arse. So since then I've been quite content in my little niche projects.

Chino Moreno ("Deftones"): "I used to have these PJ Harvey bootlegs that I obsessed over, listening over and over to how the songs evolved into these different beasts live. There’s a curiosity to them: a sense of danger, like anything could go wrong. Because a lot of the time, things do go wrong. Sometimes it sounds amazing and everything clicks. Other times, it sounds shit. Some of my favorite music and favorite bands – they didn't always work live. It's how it goes."

He also talks about seeing Polly in person (twice) in this interview (at 07:50 mark) - in February 1996 when she's performed "Henry Lee" with Nick Cave in Denmark, and during australian Big Day Out (most likely, 2003):

Paul Draper, of Mansun, on To Bring You My Love:

I love this album – again for the production. The songs are basic but dark and she’s a proper artist. PJ Harvey is just doing her very leftfield thing and I really like that. It’s a really great sounding record. There is a running thread through some of the tracks on the albums I’ve picked which is Flood – the producer. He produced this album… and sonically, he’s just an incredible producer. I just absolutely love loads of albums he’s worked on.

Jehnny Beth on tumblr:

http://jehnnybeth.tumblr.com/post/13168 ... -meet-with

'Last week I had the immense pleasure to meet with PJ Harvey who offered me a copy of her first poetry book ‘The Hollow of the Hand’. Between 2011 and 2014 she set out with photographer Seamus Murphy on a series of journeys to Kosovo, Afghanistan and Washington DC. She collected words, he collected pictures. It is a deep and beautiful work that I really recommend anyone to read. PJ’s poetry work is astonishing, clear and honest. She accomplishes brilliantly the dream of every lyricist, to write vital poetry. She is truly one of my favourite artists of all time.'

"Although you see a picture of the king - Elvis Presley - hanging on the wall behind her, Courtney talked about PJ Harvey's incredible album "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea" which she picked as her favourite album of all time."
