Thanks. I'll look into it. :)

This is no longer true. There's a lot of money involved with the credit card harvesting.

yeah I guess it's about time to invest in anti virus software; better to be safe than sorry. I was always told that since I have a mac I'd pretty much have to be searching for a mac virus to get one. So Intego is a pretty good program? Has updates often? Doesn't anti-virus software take up a lot of space though? Or maybe I'm just making this up or perhaps it used to be like that and has improved quite a bit.

Oh yeah, well there is that.

My son got some really pernicious malware (Windows), it took me several hours to get rid of it. And he has anti-virus software. It may have been after his passwords, but it was hard to say, it's main purpose seemed to be to install more viruses.

DrDark tells me that Norton Utils is a system hog on PC, that seems to be true on my ancient Windows machine. The Intego software seems pretty compact, I need to remember to run it once in a while, although I think it does detect some incoming stuff too. The only think I don't like about it is when the firewall detects an outside computer scanning me, the warning comes up with this big yellow and black sign and goes...

EEHHH!!! EEHHH!!! EEHHH!!!

and I jump out of my skin.

Anti virus companies place some of the viruses out there to stay in business.

Norton has apparently gotten much better in this regard in the last year or so. Their latest AV software (just AV, not talking about their all-encompassing security software) is much easier on system resources than it used to be a few years ago.

Most PC AV software has a scheduler that you can set so that it runs the scans at times when you're not using the machine. Generally, you don't want to try to be using it when the scan is running. So I pick nightly at 2AM and leave it on all night at least a couple nights a week. The "real-time" component of AV software is always active, and thus an older machine may suffer because of this.

You know, I really meant to collect more web site links. I know you all know about this one, but JPH is kind enough to link to us (he needs to update the link and I've written him) and it's web courtesy to link back.
