PJ Harvey could be just about the most consistently brilliant songwriter out there. With so much substance to her output over the years, it is genuinely satisfying when she delivers yet again and releases something as delightful as ‘The Glorious Land’: a shambling and eccentric single that typifies just how brilliant her eight studio album, ‘Let England Shake’, really is. ‘The Glorious Land’ is a playful rattle full of vintage PJ Harvey quirks; opening with the sounding of a bugle, punctuated throughout by gnarly guitar work and climaxing with her high-pitched warbling vocals being supported by a choir of children. ‘The Glorious Land’ is immaculately produced and is the stand-out track from its parent album, outwardly clever and quintessentially PJ Harvey. Undeniably the finest record to feature a lyric about deformed children, ‘The Glorious Land’ is a hauntingly beautiful single that would make for a perfect soundtrack to a hazy afternoon saunter through Camden. Golden.
