Dry: Plants And Rags- She sounds so young and vulnerable, so full of desperation and longing. Haunted by her own sadness. Dress- Just a really great pop song. Victory- The band kills on this one. Happy And Bleeding- So naked and claustrophobic. But also naive, pure, honest and innocent. Joe- This is probably one of her most rocking. Water- So college rock. I really like the quiet loud dynamic. Rid Of Me: Man-Size Sextet- What a great sense of humour she has! 50 ft Queenie Yuri G Dry- This one's almost uncomfortable to listen to from the 1st to about 5th listen. Sung by anyone else this would come across as perhaps pretentious and tedious. But, she just sounds so desperate you almost feel sorry for her. You wouldn't buy it from anyone else because they don't express the level of sincerity she does. Me-Jane- Can you say FERAL! Hook- The passion expressed makes this song almost excruciating to listen to. She sounds like she's being ripped open. Ecstasy- A song that rivals Hendrix! 4-Track Demos: 50 ft Queenie- Erratic, Ecstatic, Dissonant and all a one person effort! Rid Of Me- I love the intro on the 4-track version. Her vocals here aren't exactly for the faint hearted, there's just a lot of ambition here. Reeling- Alsion Mosshart summed this up perfectly when she said. "No matter what you're doing, you just can't help but stare when this comes on". Yuri G- Guitar sounds great. Goodnight- The best song she had written to date. M-Bike- This one's just so self-deprecating. Driving- Love the tonality Hardly Wait- Another one of her best. To Bring You My Love: To Bring You My Love- So much intensity in her voice. She really channels Howlin' Wolf here. Coming across as a female Howlin' Wolf. The Dancer Down By The Water- Have you ever heard anything like this? Teclo- Again the passion in her voice is almost excruciating to listen to. No one convinces or draws you quite into their own world the way she does. Especially here. C'Mon Billy- Painfully commercial, but so good nonetheless. Long Snake Moan- Out of this world! I Think I'm A Mother- Love the guitar groove and the way the words roll off her tongue. Meet Ze Monsta Dance Hall At Louse Point: City Of No Sun- Someone get the straight jacket! Far more mad than anything Bjork's ever done! Civil War Correspondent Rope Bridge Crossing- A song that manages to be loud and quiet at the same time. Much like the whole album Taut- Is she supposed to have been possesed by: A. The Devil? B. A Dolphin? C. Tom Waits? Heela That Was My Veil Is This Desire? Catherine- The most haunting, bone-chilling song you're ever likely to here. And the bass is earth-shattering. The Garden- I love the tonality to this one. The River- The longing and loneliness in her voice. I especially like how the song builds up towards the end. Is This Desire?- Her voice is gorgeous here. So mature and womanly. Electric Light My Beautiful Leah- Indirect self-loathing trip-hop. The Sky Lit Up- How can you stand still when this song comes on?! A Perfect Day Elise No Girl So Sweet- You just have to love, if not admire the ecstaticness. Joy- Overdone and all the better for it. Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea: Good Fortune- Beautiful Feeling Big Exit- Really exciting. A Place Called Home- Her delivery is fantastic One Line- Horses In My Dream- So visceral and engaging. The music matches perfectly the visual created through the lyrics. The Whores Hustle And The Hustlers Whore- Cliched perhaps, but just so good. Uh Huh Her: Pocket Knife- Peasant protest folk! The Slow Drug- Pure ecstasy. Cat On The Wall- Lyrics are painfully stupid but I just find the song so enjoyable. It's You Darker Days Of Me And Him- Undeniably one of the best songs she's ever written. Desperate Kingdom Of Love White Chalk: Grow Grow Grow- Just Incredible Dear Darkness When Under Ether- White Chalk Broken Harp- I love how claustrophobic it is, so claustrophobic that it's almost confrontational. Silence To Talk To You- Ethereal! The Piano A Woman A Man Walked By: The Chair Black Hearted Love- I really don't like this as much as everyone else seems too. But, I can't deny that it is pretty bloody enjoyable! Sixteen, Fifteen, Fourteen Leving California- I'm going to quote the charming Mark Prindle here: "Falsetto? No Falsetto's to low! April- More people should try and sing like they're 85. A Woman A Man Walked By- Very Birthday Party-ish. Pig Will Not- Never heard anything like this. In madness this far exceeds anything I've heard from her or most. Let England Shake: Let England Shake- Far more exciting, appocalyptic Banshees. This song is a small earthquake. The Glorious Land- I'm reminded of one of those Korean karaoke bar's where no one speaks English. The Words That Maketh Murder- So many influences, this song just has everything. All And Everyone- Love the chord changes. On Battleship Hill- Just gorgeous. England- When I first heard this I couldn't decide whether it was hilarious or a bit devastating. It's a song that manages to be a bit of both. The Colour Of The Earth- I didn't fancy this one too much initially. Now, suprisingly it's one of my favourites. |

I think it would be nice if you guys post a little about one of each highlight. I love hearing fans' input on her songs. Dry Dress - This song always put me in a good mood. The music, the melodies, the lyrics just work so well. "You purdy thing my man says" has to be my favorite part. Plants and Rags Victory Rid of Me Rid of Me - One of her best. The desperation, the anger, the sexual energy just creates a really uncomfortable mood and then the song explodes. It kinda leaves you short for breath when it's over, like "what the fuck did I just listen to?" Rub Til' It Bleeds 50FT Queenie Snake - I love what someone said about this on here. She doesn't even need 2 minutes to blow your mind. To Bring You My Love To Bring You My Love. Meet Ze Monsta - I can't tell you how many times I've performed this song in my bedroom. I always let loose when it comes on; it's also incredibly fun to listen to while driving. I Think I'm A Mother - This one was a grower for me but is now one of my fave Peej songs. I love how monotonous the whole thing is, her little moans at the end kill me every time. Long Snake Moan Dance Hall at Louse Point Civil War Correspondent - such a flawless song. I absolutely love John's "mmmmhmmm"'s and Polly;s "aaahhhhhh" 's during the buildup. The finale is poignant too, she sounds like she's breaking down. Heela Taut That Was My Veil Is This Desire? Catherine - my all time favorite song. It's so sick and disturbing. It creeps under your skin; Polly at her most twisted. My Beautiful Leah - The song made me feel ill at first listen, the music the lyrics were sickening. Electric Light - fell in love with this after I saw it live. I kinda wish Rob Ellis was on the album version. Is This Desire? - i like the juxtaposition between her low vocals and the hysterical "is his desires?". Perfect album closer. Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea Big Exit Beautiful Feeling This is love. Uh Huh Her The Darker Days of Me & Him - love it but prefer the live version. The Letter - the longing and pain in this song gets me every time. The ending is epic. It's You - the piano breakdown is heartbreaking. White Chalk The Mountain White Chalk - first song I attempted to play on the guitar. It's simple but very beautiful. The Devil - I love the loneliness in this song, she does a great job at conveying the emotion. Kinda sad that she stole it from the Russian dude though. A Woman a Man Walked By A Woman a Man Walked By April Black Hearted Love - ear orgasm. 16 15 14 - This song creeps me the fuck out. I don't know what that sound is @ 3.20 and on but I picture sawing of children. Yikes. Let England Shake In the Dark Places On Battleship Hill - always makes me feel like I'm floating. I'm more and more into "Hanging in the Wire". This song is rather nondescript at beginning but it's developing after while. |

I've been waiting for boredom to do this and now is the time ![]() DRY Dress - One of the first songs I feel in love with. It's so easy to like and I love the lyrics. Sheila-Na-Gig - Oh My God! She got me with the first words "I've been trying to show you over and over".. I'm a sucker for lyrics and this song is, to me, one of her strongest lyrics on the album. I mean, for a girl to write these kind of things at that point where rockmusic was for guys only is just amazing to me. Fountain - I adore this song Water - Love her deep voice, especially in the Peel sessions! Plants & Rags - One of my favourite PJ lyrics "ease myself into a bodybag" RID OF ME Rid Of Me - One of the first songs that got me into PJ. My favourite version of this song is when she plays solo during the Stories tour. Talk about girlpower! Lick My Legs is legendary. Missed - Her voice! You can hear the emotions throughout the song, wonderful! Legs - Beautiful. A very diferent lovesong compared to other lovesongs. Man-Size - Lovely, the video is great! And when she plays it during the White Chalk tour and backs away from the mic while she sings "silence my lady head"! Me-Jane - One of my favourite songs! Took me a while to understand why the song was called Me-Jane.. Omg, I felt totally retarded. Ecstasy - No words can describe how good I think this song is. 4-TRACK DEMOS Rub 'til It Bleeds - The demo version of this song is the best IMO, I love the rawness of it and her small "hah, and you believed me". M-Bike - One of the songs I like playing when I drive. Gives me that kick-ass feeling of invincibility ![]() TO BRING YOU MY LOVE To Bring You My Love - Solo during White Chalk tour.. Amazing! Love the loud and dark guitar. And my heart just breaks when she sings the "I know he's gonna be here" with that voice. Meet Ze Monsta - The screams are awesome C'mon Billy - My heart breaks whenever I listen to this song after I saw the video. One of the best videos I've seen, it's so sad. Teclo - "Let me ride on his grace for a while" <3 Long Snake Moan - Rock! One of the songs my dad likes ![]() The Dancer - It took me a while to listen to this song, don't know why because it became one of my faves instantly. The lyrics are beautiful. DANCE HALL AT LOUISE POINT Civil War Correspondent - Live at Stockholm Water Festival where you can hear the drums clearly when she sings the last lines.. Amazing! Taut - The way she sings "Jesus save me" the first two times always makes me sing along with a big smile. IS THIS DESIRE? Angelene - One of my first loves. My Beautiful Leah - The live version where she throws the drumstick over her head. This song is amazing, love the "NOOOO". A Perfect Day Elise - Also one of my first loves! Is This Desire? - I love this song so much. "I feel like a king" STORIES FROM THE CITY, STORIES FROM THE SEA Good Fortune - One of the songs that always puts me in a good mood. The video always makes me smile. The Whores Hustle And The Hustlers Whore - Just the part where she sings "speak to me of heroin and speed". This Mess We're In - When she speaks. Horses In My Dreams - One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. UH HUH HER Who The Fuck? - I love the video. It gives me that "who the hell are you, go fuck yourself" if I'm pissed. The Slow Drug - It feels like I'm floating when I listen to this song, amazing. The Desperate Kingdom Of Love -Live during White Chalk tour <3 WHITE CHALK Grow Grow Grow - I don't like the album version as much as the live versions. Her voice is so powerful when she sings the "grows" White Chalk - I love this song. She always gets me with the last lines "scratch my palms, there's blood on my hands" Silence - Just lovely, absolutely lovely. A WOMAN A MAN WALKED BY Black Hearted Love - I just love this. Sixteen, Fifteen, Fourteen - This song is so weird and I like it! April - My favourite version of this song is from a radio show where you can really hear her angel-like voice during the "I dreamed" part. LET ENGLAND SHAKE Let England Shake - I just love this. The Last Living Rose - The first song I heard from the new album and the sax part has been stuck in my head since. It gives such a happy feeling, especially when the sun shines! All & Everyone - When she sings "Death to all and everyone" always gets me. England - I love it Bitter Branches - I love the tempo of this song. Written On The Forehead - "Blood and Fire" is stuck in my head The Colour Of The Earth - The first song that really popped out from the album for me. Wow, this was so hard! I had to bite my tounge not to write down every song from each album because I love them all! ![]() |
