Hi,

I recorded a re-run (direct capture DVB-T) of the Later with Jools Holland which had This Is Love amongst a couple of other PJ songs off Channel Dave in the UK last week. A couple of questions for the experts:

1. Has any of this performance been officially released?

2. Is there a direct capture of this circulating?

Depending on the above I'll transfer it and share it here/on Dime.

Thanks for any help people can offer!

hmm.. I wanna say that 'this is love' (or was it 'Big Exit'?) was featured on one of the officially release Later/jools holland dvds, but I could be wrong. The other two are fair game.

That was my recollection, that some or all had been on a best of, but wasn't sure what. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the thoughtful gesture, btw. Is what you captured in widescreen HD or just simply a digital non-HD 4:3 standard format view?

I'm trying to recollect the quality of what's already been released out there since the original broadcasts. I think the video copies I have are in 4:3 format, but I don't have them nearby to check and I don't know if that was the original format.

I have several .avi versions of these. Some are 704x448, others are 704x528. I have a 1024x576 .mpg version of Big Exit so I'll bet the original source was widescreen. The 704x448 ones have a "Dave" watermark in the upper left corner.

Dunno about what's been released. Newrose would probably know for sure. For his PJH Evo DVD compilation on dime he only included This Is Love (in 767x576).

If you got all 3 in widescreen, there are places other than dime that wouldn't care as much. Wink

Its not HD. I think its only 4:3 based on a quick watch on the TV (I only have a 4:3 TV). I'm not sure when the BBC started broadcasting widescreen, so this (2001) must have been on the cusp I guess. I'll transfer it in any case from the Topfield and stick the mpgs up here. I've got to say that I wasn't over impressed by the broadcast quality, which seemed a bit jerky, but as it will only take me half an hour worth the effort in any case. The whole series was advertised as being screened, but it seems to have been pulled the last week (maybe because of the quality?)

I also captured some highlights from Roskilde (can't remember the year) on BBC 6 music from a couple of weeks ago at 160 kbps mp2 - sure this has been up as an FM in the past, but I'll sort that as well some time soon and stick up as well for the record.

Here's the 3 mpgs in a zip file

PJ Harvey
Later With Jools Holland
12th October 2001

1. Big Exit
2. Will's Song
3. This Is Love

4:3 PAL DVD

Rebroadcast on Dave 22nd May 2009

Lineage:

DVB-T>Topfield TF5800 PVR>.rec file (Transport Stream>USB>PC>ProjectX>.m2p file>PVAStrumento>mpeg>Womble Mpeg editor (mpegs)

Couple of points. This was 4:3, even though Dave brodcasts in 16:9 (the adverts were 16:9). In Big Exit I noticed two small discontinuities at about 3:00 and 3:25 - I got no-errors reported in the transport stream processing, so perhaps these were on the broadcast?

Also, This Is Love ends a bit abruptly as they cut straight to adverts before Jools Holland did the outro.

Resolution is 720 x 576

There was a short interview with Polly on this show. Jools presented her with some flowers because it was her birthday. I think he got everyone to sing happy birthday for her. If I remember rightly, Robert Plant was in the audience. The interview was on youtube but I can't find it now.

Jools with his piano in the band Squeeze. Nifty guitar playing from Glenn Tillbrook:

I scanned through it looking for the interview but couldn't find it - they may have edited it out of this broadcast as there were a fair few adverts. I'll have another look and double check

Nice videos, thanks Pontiac B.

The widescreen (1024x576) version of Big Exit that I mentioned above came from here:

Yes, after I posted that message I realised that it wasn't the whole interview. I got a bit excited! :-)

A very big thankyou for this. :-) After hearing Jools sing 'Happy Birthday' I realise why Squeeze kept him away from the mic and on the keyboards!:-) Howard Marks sitting behind Polly; I think I may have confused him - thanks to bad memory on this - with Robert Plant.
